Contraindications
Massage is deeply beneficial, but it isn't appropriate in every circumstance. Please review this list before your session so your therapist can care for you safely. This page doesn't replace your intake form or a conversation with your therapist.
Please reschedule your session if you have
- A fever, flu, cold, or any contagious illness
- COVID-19 or known recent exposure within the isolation period
- A stomach bug or any illness involving vomiting or diarrhea in the last 48 hours
- Active pink eye, ringworm, scabies, or lice
Massage cannot be performed without physician clearance if you have
- A history of blood clots, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or pulmonary embolism
- Unmanaged or severe high blood pressure
- A bleeding disorder or are taking blood thinners
- Undergone surgery within the past 6 weeks
- An active cancer diagnosis currently in treatment
- Severe, unmanaged osteoporosis
- A high-risk pregnancy, placenta previa, or preeclampsia
Please tell your therapist before the session begins if you have
- Diabetes, especially if blood sugar is difficult to manage
- Varicose veins or a history of circulatory conditions
- Any recent injury, fracture, sprain, or area of acute inflammation
- Received Botox, dermal fillers, or other injections in the last 2 weeks
- Any skin condition, rash, sunburn, or open wound
- A pacemaker or other implanted medical device
- Are in your first trimester of pregnancy
Session policy
- Sessions cannot be performed on clients who are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs
- Massage is not a substitute for medical care or diagnosis of any condition
- Your therapist may adjust, shorten, or decline a session on-site if a contraindication becomes apparent, for your safety
